THE WEIGHT

THE WEIGHT
Synopsis

CIĘŻAR (THE WEIGHT)
A housing estate in Poland, 1980s. A man in his late sixties lives alone in a flat no one visits. His days are orderly and empty: the radio, tea, the window.
One morning he opens the window and jumps. Several floors below, a neighbour steps out with her dog at that exact moment. He lands on her. The film never resolves who survived what happened.
What remains is a hospital bed, an interrogation, strangers asking questions. And the dog — the only presence on both sides of that morning, the link between two people who never spoke to each other, bound together in a single second.
All his life the man went unnoticed. Now he becomes the subject of a procedure: a dressing, a statement, a ruling. The attention he never had arrives in this form alone — as a case to be closed.
Ciężar does not resolve what it is we are actually watching. What remains is the portrait of a man cut off from others for so long that his presence and his absence have stopped being different things.
